Provisional Assessments
Our clinic counsellor and GP can undertake a range of formal Adult ADHD testing assessments and if they indicate ADHD, we can refer you to a psychiatrist. Our GP services offer Medicare Rebates. We can write Mental Health Care Plans as necessary, but cannot accept them at this stage. Nor can we prescribe ADHD Medication as only your psychiatrists can do that.

We can however identify co-morbidities such as anxiety, depression and OCD, and medically manage them.

Whilst you are waiting for your psychiatrist's appointment, we can continue to manage your symptoms through our clinic services. This means that if you have an extended wait to see a psychiatrist, you have access to a clinic GP and Counsellor during this time.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can be extremely challenging for the person diagnosed with ADHD as well as close family and friends. ADHD is far more than a 'naughty boy who can't sit still.' Most people with ADHD describe it as a problem with regulation - whether that's with focus, their emotions, time management or organisation. They describe being unable to plan and finish tasks, are often late to appointments and have problems within personal relationships. Some days they will be struck with ADHD paralysis and feel sluggish and out of sorts, and on other days, they will be super-focused in a task and experiencing hyper-focus. People with ADHD often suffer from co-morbidities too, such as depression, anxiety and OCD.

Assessments.

In Australia, only a psychiatrist can make a formal diagnosis of Adult ADHD and initiate stimulate medications. Registered and trained Counsellors, Psychologists and GPs in Victoria can make provisional diagnoses but cannot initiate stimulant medications. GPs in Victoria can provide subsequent and ongoing prescriptions for stimulant medication with a permit from the health department, in a shared cared arrangement with the diagnosing specialist.
